What Parole Officer Training do I Need?
The minimum educational requirement for parole officer jobs is a degree in one of the social sciences from a 4 year college or university. In addition, parole officer training includes undergoing a written and oral examination. Psychological testing is also mandatory. In some states you have a set time to complete an additional parole officer training course. Physical preparedness is determined by administration of a physical abilities test. Most states require a full year of supervised casework experience as well before you can consider your preliminary parole officer training complete. Continued parole officer training is highly advised to keep on top of advancements.

What are Parole Officer Jobs Like?
The life of a parole officer is often hectic. The average work load for a parole officer is between 80 and 120 active cases. It is your job, as a parole officer to maintain contact with a legal offender once they have been released from institutional custody. The goal of this contact is to assist them in finding social, emotional, and financial support so the chance of returning to crime is reduced. Making contact with those individuals entrusted to your care requires a great deal of moving about. The actual contact can be challenging as well as many of your cases will involve confrontational people. Monetary compensation for parole officer jobs is reasonable and advancement is possible.
