Court Administrator: Operations Manager for the Trial CourtsThe position of court administrator, also know as court manager, is demanding yet incredibly challenging and interesting. The court administrator is the operations manager for the trial courts. Appointed by the county, circuit court, and judges, the individual that fills this position has a the enormous responsibility of overseeing that the courts run smoothly. Responsibilities include the oversight of various departments such as the human resources department, the deputy court administrators, directors, and senior staff advisors. Important to the role is strategic planning, budgeting, management and leadership skills, research skills and statistical analysis. The ultimate goal is to create centralized management working closely with the administrative judges of each district.What you Need to Know Essential to the success of running an efficient operation is obtaining adequate training. There are court certification programs. Courses include customer service, courts and community, financial fundamentals and management, bail, traffic overview, case flow management, communications, team building, and quality management. Also useful to the position is legal terminology, ethics, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and computer skills. Expect to take both a written and oral examination as well as post-certification to maintain your certification. |
