Bodyguards Protect the Safety of Their ClientsWorking as a bodyguard sounds like a cool job, but you are responsible for health and safety of your client whenever you are assigned to protect him or her. You are watching over an executive or high profile individual such as celebrity that could be harmed by an overzealous fan that does not know where the boundaries to someone's personal space begin. An individual, such as the President or Prime Minister, may have hundreds of bodyguards who might be concealed. You may never see or notice that there is a bodyguard protecting the individual. An effective bodyguard is a prepared and alert bodyguard. Prepare yourself for this position by learning self-defense tactics, armed and unarmed combat techniques, first aid and CPR, weapon disarming, dispute resolution, surveillance, defense driving, and close protection. It is important to be physically fit so that you can handle yourself and protect your client. Individuals who work in this field may also have a degree in criminal justice. Often, they have worked in some form of legal field such as a police officer or come from a military background. You can work within a group or independently. Often, your salary as a bodyguard depends on the level of risk that you might have to encounter on behalf of your client. The greater the threat, the more money you can make. Because you may need to travel with your client, a potential benefit is the travel, which of course is paid for by the client or company for which you work. |
