A Career in Law: As Seen on TV (Or Not)
Several of the top 100 shoes of the past decade have been based on the legal industry, and with good reason: the legal industry carries a huge social responsibility to interpret and implement the law, protecting millions of innocent victims every year. The legal industry on TV is a fast-paced world of crime, drama, and redemption. But is this what your law firm's office will look like if you start a career there?
Probably not. Law is exciting; the chance to influence the world in a positive way by studying and executing legal standards is a large, meaningful task. But it's not always action-packed, or filled with compelling drama. Attention to detail and thorough comprise many jobs in the legal industry.
A career in law can still be incredible, however. Working in this industry allows legal professionals the chance to help change the world from time to time. Robert Westley, a former attorney and a legal professor with a PhD, spoke on the reparations of Hurricane Katrina after the tragedy happened. Former Mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani was an attorney before running for Mayor, and now running for President of the United States.
Legal professionals affect serious change all over the word everyday. Even though a legal career may not look like it does on TV, it is still a worthwhile endeavor that can allow you to change the world in some way throughout your lifetime.
